● ozocérite ou ozokérite nom féminin (grec odzein, exhaler une odeur, et kêros, cire) Hydrocarbure naturel, présentant l'aspect de la cire.

MINÉR. Hydrocarbure naturel solide, variant du jaune clair au brun noir, qui provient de la polymérisation de certains bitumes, qui sert à fabriquer la cérésine et qui entre dans la confection des cirages et des isolants. Synon. paraffine naturelle. À la mine d'ozokérite de Borislaw (Galicie), il s'est dégagé du gaz hilarant qui énivrait quelquefois les ouvriers (HATON DE LA GOUPILLIÈRE, Exploitation mines, 1905, p.691). L'ozocérite est principalement exploitée en Pologne (CHARTROU, Pétroles natur. et artif., 1931, p.176). Pour rendre isolants et indéformables les bois utilisés dans l'industrie électrique, on eut recours à la paraffine, l'huile de lin, les huiles minérales, les substances isolantes tirées des schistes bitumineux, telles que l'ozokérite, etc. (CAMPREDON, Bois, 1948, p.90).
